Friedman Residence

The family purchased the condominium, intending to make it accessible for Mrs. Friedman, particularly the master bath, closet, foyer, and kitchen. The hall bathroom does not need to be completely accessible, but Mrs. Friedman needs to be able to move around to help care for her son. Mr. Friedman’s sister, Sarah, is coming from Israel to live with them. The garage needs to be turned into studio apartment for Sarah while she’s living with the family, but keep in mind that it may be used for a different purpose later.

The Friedman condominium, located near the historic center of San Francisco, focuses on a bay view of the Golden Gate Bridge. The combination of the bridge’s organic and geometric shapes, and bold color, translate into the universally designed Friedmans’ home. The repetition of the red on the bridge in the home unites the interior with the surrounding environment. The style, culture, and symbols of Israel, like the Hamsa hand, and the contemporary feel usually found in Israeli homes, are key influences in the design of the condo. The mix of modern Israel and the artistic San Franciscan style provide an eclectic feel for this growing family.
